American Idol David Hernandez is A Gay Stripper

For American Idol, it’s Antonella Barba all over again, but this time, it’s a guy who’s in the spotlight: David Hernandez.

Hernandez, who looks like The Mummy actor Oded Fehr and sounds like Elliott Yamin, is the subject of rumors that he was once a gay stripper, and that he himself is gay, with a steady boyfriend of 2-3 years. VoteForTheWorst even posted pics of him supposedly working as a stripper in a gay bar.

Now it’s confirmed, the gay stripper part at least.

A manager at Dick’s Cabaret, a gay nightclub in Glendale, Arizona, told the Associated Press that Hernandez did work there as a stripper, “appearing fully nude and performing lap dances for the club’s “mostly male” clientele”. He added that Hernandez stopped working there in September, because of his “Idol” participation.

The only thing I could say is: SO FREAKING WHAT? Just because he had a less-than-stellar past doesn’t mean he should not be given a chance for another line of work. The producers of American Idol are right in not kicking Hernandez off the show the way they booted out Season 2 favorite Frenchie Davis. This, after all isn’t the time for hypocritical self-rigtheousness, not when even the A.M.P.A.S. has seen fit to give former stripper Diablo Cody an Oscar.
