JK Says Dumbledore Is Gay
Surprising news for Harry Potter fans out there.
Albus Dumbledore, former schoolmaster of Hogwarts Schoolf of Witchcraft and Wizardry and mentor to Harry Potter, is gay.
And no less than HP author J.K. Rowling outed the powerful wizard in a reading of of parts of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” at Carnegie Hall.
She explained that Dumbledore has always been in love with the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald, his childhood best friend. His relationship with Grindelwald, who is described as a handsome young man, was elaborated upon in the final HP book, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows.
That bit of news all the more reinforces my belief that Sir Ian McKellen should have played Dumbledore all along. It would have been perfect, a gay Dumbledore portrayed by a gay actor, who also happens to be one of the best of his generation. He was great as Gandalf though, but I’m not seeing any member of the Tolkien clan saying that Gandalf is gay as well.
