300 Is All About The Six-Pack Abs

300

Just saw 300, director Zack Snyder’s adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same name. Since I’m not much of a film critic, I’ll state what I think of the movie as simply as I can: 300 is far from being a great film, but is all about the abs. The six-pack abs.

Well, the visuals are as stunning as the trailers made the film out to be, but the sight of so many half-naked men with washboard abs decapitating, maiming, stabbing and chopping a million hapless Persians tends to be distracting. And while 300 carries probably the largest load of testosterone I’ve ever seen in a movie, it has just enough hint of gayness, best epitomized in Rodrigo Santoro’s Xerxes, who was portrayed in the film as an eyeliner-wearing 9-footer with piercings on his face.

Scotsman Gerard Butler carried much of the film in his role as King Leonidas, but I was beginning to worry about his voice box with all the snarling and growling and shouting that he did there. And he looked like he had seven-pack abs, not six.

I’d still recommend the movie nevertheless. Just don’t take the film too seriously. It may be based on an historical event, but it’s not history per se, just a stylized and fantasy-filled narration of the Battle of Thermopylae. In other words, it’s just your typical fun ride, with serious abs.

The six pack nonsense continues. I seriously doubt that the original warriors from that battle had ripped up six pack abs. Only people who live in a modern society cultivate their bodies to look like that.
Most Maori warriors dont have six packs, neither do the Zulu warriors, neither do the Masai, neither do the Nayars. The tribal warriors of Irian Jaya (New Guinea) are among the strongest and most ferocious humans on the planet BUT they dont have cut up six packs.
